Gemstone Properties

Ruby Zoisite

This unique stone is a natural blend of both ruby and zoisite stones, first discovered at the base of Kilimanjaro in 1949. Green zoisite inspires growth and fertility, while ruby brings passion and vitality. This magical fusion creates a stone whose energy celebrates spontaneity and an abundance of positive energy.

Lapis

Loved by almost every ancient civilization, lapis has graced the necks and breastplates of pharaohs, queens, priestesses, and chiefs. Many First Nations believed it to be the starry sky shrunken down into a precious gem, holding all the answers of the universe. It is a stone of truth and is believed to aid in self-awareness and connectivity. Steeped in history, lapis was even ground down to create the blue pigment in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel.

Pyrite

Also known as Fool's Gold, pyrite takes its name from the Greek word for fire. If struck hard enough, it can actually generate sparks. It is a stone of purity and protection and is said to protect its wearer, dispelling negative energy and can even drive away creative blocks.

ABOUT HAILEY GERRITS

When Hailey Gerrits began her jewellery practice in 2010, it wasn’t long before she could be found digging through bins of antique and vintage brasses, patiently searching for the perfect piece. It was the histories of aged metals and the uniqueness of hand cut gemstones that captured her imagination. With each piece she produced she tried to capture that unobtainable quality of spirit found in the unique and unknown stories of these materials. In aged brass and bold design, she finds the ability to bring classic style with modern sensibility to her customers.

Hailey Gerrits Designs has come to encapsulate an understated glamour and sophistication. Not only is each piece handmade, but construction with unique gems and aged metals imbues each piece with an image of the past and all of its romance—fully embodying the notion of ‘one of a kind’. Her pieces are functional and build up a personality in everyday wear.

Her collections are handmade in small batches in her studio in Vancouver, BC, and all materials are ethically sourced. This culminates in the creation of collections which respect the people and planet alike; a celebration of beauty that doesn’t sacrifice sustainability or style.
