Wife and husband team, Amy and Zac Kvas, created their line of specialty small-batch syrups and garnishes out of their love for spirits, cocktail creation, and real Ontario ingredients.

Amy and Zac have a deep connection to Ontario agriculture and put local Niagara produce at the forefront of each of their creations.

Kvas syrups are terroir-driven, meaning that every KVAS product is 100% influenced by the surrounding Niagara environment. From the soil in which the ingredients grow, to the way they are harvested, Niagara is in every sip.

Growing up on her grandfather’s grape farm in Niagara, Amy was quick to learn the ins and outs of Canada’s wine country! Amy began working in the cocktail and spirit industry at Dillon’s Distillery. After her time at Dillon’s, Amy graduated from the Winery & Viticulture program at Niagara College. From there, Amy worked as a cellar hand and then transitioned into management.

Zac began his career in the vintage wineries of the Niagara region as well as Australia! Pivoting into the cocktail world, Zac became head mixologist at a famous restaurant in Niagara-on-the-Lake where he focused on merging classic cocktails with modern sensibilities and local ingredients. Zac has also curated a farm-to-bar cocktail program that has become one of the busiest and most successful of its kind in the region.

If you need a little bit of inspiration, try these classic recipes with a twist provided by Amy & Zac at Kvas.

KVAS Basil Mojito

1 oz Kvas Basil Simple Syrup
1 oz White Rum
1/2 oz Lime Juice
2 oz Soda Water
Garnish: Handful of Mint

Add all ingredients to a rocks glass filled with ice, stir until chilled and garnish with mint. 

Cherry Boulevard

3/4 oz Kvas Cherry Hibiscus Simple Syrup
1.5 oz Bourbon
3/4 oz Campari
Garnish: Black Pepper Whisky Cherry

Add all ingredients to a rocks glass with a couple ice cubes. Stir until chilled and garnish with a Kvas Black Pepper Whisky Cherry.

I Love You Manhattan

3/4 oz Kvas Cherry Hibiscus Simple Syrup
2 oz Rye or Bourbon
Garnish: Kvas Black Pepper Whisky Cherry

Add both ingredients over ice to a rocks glass and simply stir, sip.

Ferris Mule'ers Moscow Mule

1 oz Kvas Ginger Wildflower Simple Syrup
1 oz Vodka
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
Soda Water (Optional)
Garnish: Lemon Zest

Add all ingredients to a shaker, filled with ice. Shake until it is too cold for your hands and then strain into a glass filled with ice. Top with a splash of soda water (optional) and garnish with a lemon zest. 

Green Earth Sour

2 oz Kvas Ginger Wildflower Simple Syrup
1.5 oz Gin
2 oz IPA (Beer)
1 oz Lemon Juice
Garnish: Cucumber

Muddle all ingredients, except the beer, together in a shaker. Shake with ice and strain into a glass full of ice and top with your favourite IPA. Garnish with a cucumber slice. 

Henicillin

1 oz Kvas Ginger Wildflower Simple Syrup
2 oz Scotch
1/2 oz Lemon Juice

Add all ingredients to a shaker full of ice, shake and strain into a rocks glass with a couple of ice cubes. 

Kvas Peach Crusta

3/4 oz. Kvas Ginger Wildflower Simple Syrup
3/4 oz. Peach Schnapps
3/4 oz. Vodka
3/4 oz. Lemon Juice
Garnish: Fresh Grated Cinnamon 

Add all ingredients to a shaker or mason jar filled with ice. Feel free to multiply the recipe for as many guests as you have at your dinner table (this is where a large jar comes in handy). Shake until chilled and strain into a jug or pitcher to make it easier to pour the cocktail into the narrow top of the flute. 

Rub the outer inch of champagne flute with the open half of a slice of lemon. Shake 1/2-cup white sugar out on a plate and roll the "orange-rubbed" part of the champagne flute in the sugar so that the sugar sticks to the glass. 

Add one ice cube to each flute, and strain in cocktail. Take a fine-grader (like the one you use for Parmesan cheese) and grate a cinnamon stick over top of the cocktail. 

Popeye's Ginger Booster - Non Alcoholic

2 oz. Kvas Ginger Wildflower Simple Syrup
14 oz. Orange Juice
1 cup Frozen Mangos
1 1/2 cups Spinach
4 Fresh Mint Leaves
1 Scoop of Yogurt
1 oz. Lime Juice 

Add all ingredients (except two mint leaves) to a blender. Blend on medium for 1 1/2 minutes, and pour into a glass of your choosing. Garnish with your remaining mint leaves and ahoy! You've got yourself a Popeye.

Tip: Add a couple blueberries for an extra little something something.

Riesling Mojito

3/4 oz. Kvas Ginger Wildflower Simple Syrup
3 1/2 oz. Dry Riesling
1/4 oz. Lemon Juice
5 Mint Leaves

Fill a small mason jar 3/4 of the way full of ice. Add all ingredients, screw on the lid, and shake until chilled. Unscrew the lid, and garnish with a small bit of fresh mint on top!

Tip: Slap the mint before adding it to your cocktail to open up the flavour even more. 

Bench 75

1 oz. Kvas Lavender Jasmine Simple Syrup
4 oz. Chilled Sparkling Wine or Champagne (if you're feeling really fancy)
1 oz. Gin (Optional) 

Simply add all ingredients to a champagne flute and you're off to the races. Add crushed ice or frozen blueberries to chill even more if your heart desires! 

Tip: Multiply recipe in a punch bowl with frozen blueberries for a punch worthy of the queen herself!

Foxy Lemonade - Non Alcoholic

1.5 oz Kvas Lavender Jasmine Simple Syrup
1 oz Lemon Juice
6 oz Soda Water
1.5 oz Vodka (Optional)

Mix syrup, lemon juice and vodka (optional) in a tall glass over ice, top with soda water and stir. Add a garnish if you want to get fancy, uber refreshing, this drink won't last long.

Pai Mei

1 oz. Kvas Lavender Jasmine Simple Syrup
2 oz. Vodka
1/4 oz. Cointreau
1/4 oz. Lemon Juice
Egg White
Garnish: Lavender

Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice, shake until chilend and strain out cocktail. Discard ice, return cocktail to the shaker and shake again (without ice). Double strain cocktail using a Hawthorne strainer and fine mesh strainer into a chilled coupes glass. Garnish with lavender.

Muskoka Cranberry Rosemary Simple Syrup Recipes

A Little thanks

1.5 oz Kvas Cranberry Rosemary Simple Syrup
1.5 oz Grapefruit Juice
3 oz Sparkling Wine

Add grapefruit juice and syrup to a flute or coupe glass and top with chilled sparkling wine and a couple frozen cranberries, or cherries. Sub out sparkling with soda water to make a delicious non-alcoholic version of this cocktail. 

Kvas Negroni

1 oz Kvas Cranberry Rosemary Syrup
1 oz Dry Gin
1 oz Campari
Garnish: Lemon Zest

Add all ingredients to a glass with ice and stir. If you have a mixing glass, stir over ice and strain into a glass. 

Kvas Sparkler

¾ oz Kvas Muskoka Cranberry Rosemary Simple Syrup
4 oz Dry Sparkling Wine
Garnish: Frozen Cranberries & Rosemary

Add all ingredients to a glass (flute or coupe glass) and give a little stir. Add a sprig of rosemary tucked in the side of the glass, and add a few frozen cranberries for garnish. Toast the person next to you & enjoy!

The Cran Budapest Hotel

3/4 oz Kvas Muskoka Cranberry-Rosemary Simple Syrup
1 oz Gin
1/4 oz Lime Juice
Garnish: Orange Zest

Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice. Shake until chilled and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a fresh orange zest, twist into the glass and sip-sip, bon-Appetit, down-the-batch, enjoy!

KVAS Cold Fashioned

2 oz. Kvas Northern Maple Old Fashioned Simple Syrup
4 oz.Chilled Lager
1/2 oz. Whisky 

Add all ingredients to a large glass or jar and add a scoop of ice. Stir until chilled, sip & enjoy! If you like it a little less sweet try 1.5 oz Kvas Northern Maple instead of 2 oz! 

Tip: Islay Scotch whisky makes for a beautiful smoky version of this cocktail. 

Old Fashioned Hot Cider - Non Alcoholic

3/4 oz Kvas Northern Maple Old Fashioned Simple Syrup
8 oz Apple Cider (Non-Alcoholic)
1 oz Whisky (Optional)
Garnish: Apple Slice or Cinnamon Stick

Heat apple cider and syrup over the stove, pour into a mug and add whisky if desired. Garnish with an apple slice or a cinnamon stick and you've for yourself a winter warmer!

This recipe can also be batched (x recipe by number of people) and heated up in a crock pot. Add whisky just prior to serving to avoid any loss of alcohol.

Old Fashioned Pumpkin Delight

3/4 oz Kvas Northern Maple Old Fashioned Simple Syrup
1 1/2 oz Rum
2 Tsp Pumpkin Puree
1 oz Cream Liquor (Optional)

Mix ingredients in a shaker over ice and strain into a glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or fresh safe. 

Replace cream liquor with cream and remove the rum for a non-alcoholic treat!

Sunday Morning Old Fashioned

1 oz Kvas Old Fashioned Syrup
2 oz Bourbon
2 TBSP Coffee
Garnish: Cocoa Powder

Add all ingredients to a rocks glass filled with ice, stir, garnish with cocoa powder and enjoy!

The King in the North Old Fashioned

3/4 oz Kvas Northern Maple Old Fashioned Simple Syrup
1 1/2 oz Bourbon or Rye
Garnish: Orange Zest

Everyone deserves a cocktail, worthy of a king or queen. Add both ingredients to a rocks glass filled with ice, stir until chilled and garnish with an orange zest.

The Northern White Russian

1.5 oz Kvas Northern Maple Old Fashioned Simple Syrup
1 oz Vodka
2 oz Cream
Garnish: Kvas Black Pepper Whisky Cherry

Add all ingredients to a rock glass over ice, stir and garnish with a whisky cherry and a sprinkle of cinnamon, if you please!

Rhubarb Juniper Simple Syrup Recipes

Niagara Sangria

4 oz Kvas Rhubarb Juniper Simple Syrup
1 Bottle Of Niagara Red Wine
2 Cups Orange Juice
4 oz Vodka
Garnish: Seasonal fruit and citrus 

Mix ingredients in a pitcher over ice and serve in a flute or wine glass. Can be served hot or cold, depending on the season!

Ruby Slipper Fizz

1 oz Kvas Rhubarb Juniper Simple Syrup
3/4 oz Gin
8 oz Cider 

To make this dazzling fizz, start by adding a handful of ice to a tall glass. Add gin and cider and stir until chilled. Top with Kvas Rhubarb Juniper Simple Syrup and garnish with fresh fruit and herbs (we like to use strawberries and mint, but get creative!)

Whisky Sour Simple Syrup Recipes

Apples to Apples - Non Alcoholic

2 oz Apple Juice
1 oz Kvas Whisky Sour Syrup
1/2 oz Kvas Old Fashioned Syrup
Garnish: Mint

Add all ingredients to a glass filled with ice and stir, or, if you have a shaker, shake and strain into glass. Garnish with mint. 

Ko-Ko Kola

1.5 oz Whisky Sour Syrup
1.5 oz Black Pepper Cherry Juice
1.5 oz Amaro
Splash of Soda

Add all ingredients to a glass filled with ice, stir and top with a splash of soda.

Marie's Margarita

1.5 oz Kvas Whisky Sour Syrup
1.5 oz Tequila (or Mezcal)
Rim (1/2 Salt, 1/2 Sugar)

Add salt/sugar rim mixture to a small plate. Use a lime wedge to coat glass surface and place the top of the glass into the rim mixture.

Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice, shake and strain into a coupe or margarita glass over ice.

You can also use a blender and blend the ingredients over ice!

Vegan Power Whisky Sour

1 1/4 oz Kvas Whisky Sour Syrup
1 1/2 oz Whisky
Garnish: Slice of Lemon 

Tip: Shake a second time without ice, before straining, for a creamier mouthfeel.
